Muhammad University of Islam
When you think of the model of independent education for Black children, and the notion of building a separate school system, Muhammad University of Islam is one of the pioneering factors in that struggle. So much so that its founder, the Nation of Islam’s eternal leader The Most Hon. Elijah Muhammad, and members of the N.O.I. were jailed in the early 30’s for starting their school and taking the students out of public education. That is an example of pioneering independent education, and that same undying love for teaching children is present at MUI Dallas.
Muhammad University of Islam was established in 1934 by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the city of Detroit, Michigan, and re-established in 1989 in Chicago, Illinois by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.
MUI students are known throughout America for reaching the top in academic excellence. At MUI Dallas there is no difference. “My child attended MUI since they were in preschool and now that they are in high school they are a grade above their peers of the same age. They were more than prepared for the next level of education,” said a parent of a former student.
