Kasbah has been an important source of late night entertainment since 2004. When Debbie Chang and Tanya Azar purchased the restaurant in 2016 (as employees of 14 and 13 years respectively), they made a concerted effort to turn this once “lounge” into a full-scale restaurant with an exceptional food and drink menu.
Kasbah is incredibly culturally diverse. On any given night, one can walk through the restaurant, and hear five or six different languages being spoken. Kasbah values its unique mix of old world and new world, hosting a meeting of cultures.
Spending ample time working at the restaurant over the years, Debbie and Tanya have grown up at Kasbah, forming memories and relationships, with not only coworkers, but guests who have become like family. Sacramento has such a booming culinary scene, Debbie and Tanya feel honored when guests choose Kasbah.
DEBBIE CHANG, OWNER
Debbie Chang was born in Japan and grew up in South Sacramento. Raised by a mother who taught ESL, she has been spending time with people from other cultures for as long as she can remember. Working in the food service industry since 1998, Debbie graduated with a degree in Sociology and Psychology at UC Davis. As a lifelong illustrator, bringing her artistry behind the bar has evolved and elevated Kasbah’s cocktail menu.
TANYA AZAR, OWNER
Tanya Azar grew up in Sacramento and spent her childhood in her parents’ restaurant as well as a few years helping open her uncle’s restaurant in Palestine. Tanya graduated from UC Davis with a degree in International Relations. Tapping her international roots, she brings decades of family recipes to Kasbah’s kitchen, modernizing them with her own special twist.
