Dr. Elmashat is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry.
His clinical and research focuses primarily on treatment-resistant mood disorders and the application of non-psychopharmacological treatment approaches using Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
He is double board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) both Adult and Child & Adolescent psychiatry.
Prior to joining USC Department of Psychiatry in 2020, he was a faculty member at UC San Diego, Department of Psychiatry since 2002.
Dr. Elmashat is involved in training medical students, residents and fellows in psychiatry.
He is focused on a variety of research projects, mainly clinical psychopharmacology for schizophrenia and mood disorder.
He serves as the primary PI on several clinical trials.
His practice delivers compassionate, expert care in treating children, teens and adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders.
He also cares for individuals with treatment-resistant depression using transcranial magnetic stimulation, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) and Ketamine
